Woodstock 2010

Ok, ok, I know what your thinking...

"What?"
"Janis Joplin?!"
"but shes not pretty, shes a dirty hippie, with a raspy ass voice"

First of all, how dare you.

Second of all, I was browsing through Forever21 and noticed that the 'Woodstock 2009-2010' theme has yet to die. Which is great for me since I adore the clothes!

Joplin being the poster child of hippie-dom I decided that she would be the best 'Muse' and a personal hero of mine.

Janis Lyn Joplin was born in Texas and had a rise to fame in the late 60's. Joplins intense soulful, gritty voice was something so undeniably different from what the world was used to hearing. Her ride to fame was short lived when she died in 1970 of an overdose. She was only 27 years old.
Her legacy and sense of fashion still lives on to this day

What was it about the flower power era that has the fashion world [of today] in a complete tizzy trying to recreate?
Despite the war in Vietnam everything seemed so simple back them, Janis Joplin became exxxtreamly famous during a time where The Beatles broke up, Jimmi Hendrix was king, Clapton was 'God', the music was incredible!!!, full of sex and drugs, the clothes were free. People were stepping out of the straight laced look of the 50/early/60s and showing off legs and going bra less!
Summer of Love

Theres a way to rock the Woodstock look without looking like you have a head full of lice and a pocket full of weed. The trick is, DO NOT OVER DO IT!

Us as a culture enjoys OD'ing on everything we do ESPECIALLY fashion, which is a sure fire way to take a great look and drive it to the ground since EVERYONE is wearing it ..What are you talking about Maya?...Well my noble readers...
two words: gladiator sandals!

So dont wear a fringe vest,
with a fringe purse, fringe shoes,
and a foreheadband...
JUST DONT!-
you look corny, fugly,
and like miley cyrus,
so dont.

Take some inspiration from Janis, embrace patterns, colors, and express your individuality!

Oh I love the new fat ass Nicole Richie!, she went from being a skanky shadow of Paris Hilton to a true contender of "best dressed"
I love that one day she's a MOD princess and the next a chic little hippie. Her new line "House of Harlow" can be seen at Kitson and other local stores its fantastic.
Proud of you girl!
